Mac Serial Number For Mac Pro 2010
Try this one and enter the last three digits of your Serial-Number. Also, the replacement battery from Apple is definitely labeled as an A1175, so my other question is this: am I measuring my laptop incorrectly or are 15' and 17' batteries interchangeable?
Aug 05, 2015 Serial from 2012 Mac Pro showing as 2010 model. Discussion in 'Mac Pro' started by BillyBobBongo, Aug 5, 2015. Battery model number MacBook Pro 13 inch 2010 I was wondering; how can I determine the model number of the battery used in the Macbook Pro 13' 2010? Preferable without opening up my laptop. I plan to order a new battery online (from a non apple store) but for that I need the model number.
Now, I have another deficit battery (but Apple declined to replace it, which I can sort of understand). I need a new battery, but am having a problem: I can't identify my model id! I know my serial number, but cannot find the MA **// or A *** number--I checked under my battery case and in the Apple>More Info menu and all it says is that it's a 'MacBook Pro'!
The guy told me the same story. So the serial number in 'About this Mac > More Info' 'Overview' tab has the apple care warranty, but if I then click on the 'Service' link tab located at the top right of the 'About This Mac' window and choose the 'Check my Service and Support coverage status' The serial number that gets sent to Apple is the one that is etched on the bottom on the Mac I just purchased.
Thanks to one and all for all their info/help/discussion on this matter, it's greatly appreciated.
Please don't take this as me being dismissive - I am merely trying to find a way forward for me or someone else to help you. Missing serial numbers I have seen a number of cases where users thought that a missing serial number was the cause of problems (such as the Messages app being unable to connect) but the real issue was something else. Evenso, in these cases the scenario was a missing serial number not an invalid one. (I should add that I have personally seen Macs with missing serial numbers function normally in all respects.) Valid serial numbers In the previously mentioned Tech note, Apple also states Developers should not make any assumptions about the format of the serial number such as its length or what characters it may contain.
You can then use your serial number to or to find for your model. You can also use your computer's model identifier to get more information.
Does anyone know the process of doing this on a legitimate Mac Pro (I'm not seeing how the Hackintosh methodologies would tie in to an actual Mac Pro at present)? I may have misunderstood your question, but it's not clear what you mean by: my account works fine on other machines with different serials, yet even on this Mac Pro with a completely fresh install, it absolutely will not work.
• Click to Accept the usage agreement. • Enter your Serial Number WITHOUT ERRORS. Truly make certain there are no errors here. Remember that Zeros (0) and 'O's' look very similar. • Click Enter.
Source: The point I am trying to make is that Mac computers can lose their serial number, or the serial number can change (e.g. Through a replacement logic board), and because of this serial numbers are only used by Apple as one way of identifying/tracking computers for Warranty purposes (e.g. Relating to Apple Care, recall programs, etc). This being the case, it's not clear what isn't working on your Mac Pro in terms of your account. If you could clarify, perhaps the community may be able to address what isn't working in a different way?
Second, there is no room for error. You only get one chance at inputting the proper serial number during the 'write' phase of the how to. If you mistype any part of it, you'll likely end up with a non-bootable system. DO NOT PERFORM THIS FIX IF YOU CANNOT LIVE WITH A NON-WORKING MACHINE.
@ Ruud van der Salm did you get a way to find it? Mine is a Macbook Pro 2009 (Core 2 Duo) model. I ran the 'System Profiler' application, but could find only the following information. The battery model wasn't listed there.
I'm looking at purchasing a second hand Mac Pro 'Twelve Core' 3.06 (2012/Westmere) and I got the seller to send the 'About This Mac' screen to me. Running the serial number through it popped up as a Mac Pro (Mid 2010) model. Seller is asking for €2000 for the model with 32GB of RAM. Am I looking at a 2010 model that's been upgraded, or do all 2012 models report back as being 2010?
Mac Pro Serial Number Location
This being the case, I'm not sure how you could generate a valid serial number for your Mac Pro. If, on the other hand, your serial number was missing altogether, there is a tool that allows you to re-enter a serial number, but this tool only works if no serial number is present - it doesn't allow you to edit an existing record, which you do have. Proving your hypothesis By the way, if you are correct about what is going on in your case, the only way you will prove it to Apple is to take these steps: • use your Apple ID on your Mac Pro and demonstrate what isn't working • use your Apple ID on another Mac Pro of the same model/configuration and show that everything is working fine • swap the logic boards between the two • use each computer in turn • if everything works fine on your machine with the other logic board, and no longer works fine on the other machine with your logic board, you've proven your case.
Also, the replacement battery from Apple is definitely labeled as an A1175, so my other question is this: am I measuring my laptop incorrectly or are 15' and 17' batteries interchangeable? Sorry I am not familiar with the MBP batteries, but maybe some other can chime in. Thanks for reading my (stupid) questions! Nothing stupid about them. Internet explorer 6 for 64-bit. П™‚ Hope it helps a bit. Hi Eve, The 15' and 17' batteries are different.
Then use the identifier to below.
I think due to all this information I'm going to pull out of negotiations on this one. Think I'd rather buy a model with a more documented history.
My expectation was that it should have reported back as Mid-2012. Thought I'd throw this one out to the community as it wasn't the result I was expecting, and it is causing me to doubt the authenticity of the advert. Don't really want to roll up somewhere with 2K in my pocket if it's dodgy.
Don't blame us. I told you to not perform this fix. Fifth, if you have an Apple warranty that's still valid, call Apple to fix the serial number issue.

Where can I locate the Serial Number on my Mac? Are Serial Numbers unique? What are the limitations identifying a specific Mac using the Serial Number? Mac Serial Numbers can be located under the 'About This Mac' section of Mac OS X and on the hardware itself as well as on some packaging and receipts, making the identifier quite versatile for identification and differentiation.
Over the multitude of years of service, my 2009 Mac Pro has endured many supported and unsupported software updates, OS upgrades, hardware upgrades, firmware upgrades, re-installs, wipes, Boot Camp installs, boot loader changes, and so on and so on. Over that time and over those many changes, at some point, my logic board lost its marbles and simply 'forgot' its serial number. Here's how to get your Mac to 'remember' its serial number once more! • • • • • • The problem with not having a serial number For quite some time I had no issues with my Mac not knowing its serial number or revision (year of manufacture). Everything worked fine. I could install programs, log into the App store, iMessage friends and colleagues, and everything else needed in my Mac environment. However, a time came after a certain update or upgrade (I can't remember which, since for the most part, everything still just worked) certain services like iMessage and FaceTime would no longer allow me to log in to their services.
Another weakness of using Serial Numbers for identification is that repairs can alter or remove the serial number in software or hardware and/or provide conflicting Serial Number information. Occasionally, there are different Serial Numbers listed on the hardware and in software due to manufacturing error as well. In these situations, one will need to use alternate information to identify a particular Mac.
On the surface of your MacBook Pro Close the computer and turn it over. You will see the serial number on the underside of the device, near the regulatory markings. On the original product packaging or receipt you can find the serial number on a barcode label on the box. The box also lists the Apple part number (it starts with M). Match that number to one in the table below to find your MacBook Pro model.
Apple will repalce it in an Apple Store. Pricng is in this article: There are third-party batteries out there but many are counterfeits that could damage your computer. I would use the Apple option. Get a USB key For this to work, you'll need to be able to boot off of a secondary device such as a USB. The files are very small so nearly any USB key will work. I used the from Amazon for $15 in my example. Get the software The software I'm using but am not providing is called the Blank Board Serializer. The fix • Format the USB drive with with the FAT filesystem. • Unpack the Blank Board Serializer program to your disk.

Based on the fact this guy is clearly selling these machines on Craigslist (not just one to upgrade his like he said) and the serial #'s don't match.what should I be concluding? Is it stolen? Refurbished by himself?? As mentioned it works great as far as I can tell.haven't seen any issues in the few days I've had it and I've used it for a number of hours now. Sorry for the long winded post.
I'm not aware of any Apple ID account services that interrogate serial numbers. In fact, Apple instructs software developers the following caveat relating to serial numbers: It is possible for a system to lose its serial number so that it will no longer appear either in System Profiler or the I/O Registry. Repairing a system by swapping hardware components is one reason this can happen. Apple does not document the specific details of how a machine can lose its serial number. Once the serial number has been lost there is no means to restore it to the machine. These were the computers sold between 2006 and about the end of September 2008 (when the 'late 2008' unibody model with a different battery replaced them). The battery for the 17' model is larger, and has a higher capacity. It won't fit in the 15' model, and vice versa.
You can then enter that serial number on the to find your model. • The original packaging might also show an Apple part number, such as MLH12xx/A (“xx” is a variable that differs by country or region). Here are the amounts of RAM we have found to be the real minimum for comfortable use in different operating systems. The minimum levels here are not absolute, but even lighter users will be well advised to take steps to minimise RAM use (principly restricting the number of applications they use simultaneously) if they are below them. Of course for some more specialist users of RAM intensive applications, even the ideal amounts listed will be grossly inadequate.
So you may be able to do it with a straight up request, never tried it myself, or then you might have to try a bit of what is commonly known as 'social engineering'. Click to expand.Yes. I had the system board in my 2010 MBP replaced to resolve an issue, and it came back with the same serial number.

• Using Disk Utility, Restore the unpacked dmg file to your USB drive. • Click Done. • Shutdown your Mac.
Hi Eve, The 15' and 17' batteries are different. The model number you have quoted (A1175) is for a pre-unibody 15' model battery.
The easiest way to locate the Serial Number for a particular Mac is to select 'About This Mac' under the Apple Menu on your computer and click the 'More Info.' You should see a window similar to this one: Image Credit: EveryMac.com In this example, from EveryMac.com's own collection, the underlined Serial Number is enough to identify a single Mac and it is believed to be unique to this one particular model -- the. Please note, however, that not all Macs of a particular model have the same Serial Number characteristics. Another reader also could have a, but it could have quite different identifying characteristics. Additionally, and unfortunately, Serial Number identifiers are not always unique to one Mac either, and this is a limitation overall. Based on hands-on inspection and thousands of reader-submitted Serial Numbers there appear to be some different models in the,,,, and lines that share identifying information.
Please type a precise Mac identifier or an iPod, iPhone, or iPad identifier into the above search box and click Lookup. Results will appear here. EveryMac.com supports these identifiers: • Order Number (Example: MA970B/A, MB467LL/A, or MD093E/A) • Model Number (Example: A1278 or M8493) • EMC Number (Example: 2254 or 380B) • Model Identifier (Example: MacBook5,1) • Serial Number (Example: W88401231AX or C02CG123DC79) • Intel processor number (Example: P8600 or 4980HQ) Need more help?
Don't use this method. This will likely void any valid warranty. Finally, don't use this fix. Get your serial number Getting your serial number should be a straight forward affair.
So all said and done it's not that far off the 2010 model, but with more RAM and someone has already done the work of upgrading it. Guess the wisest move now is to ask a lot of questions, and if the seller gets spooked then so be it. Right then, after many more questions here's what I now know. It turns out that the seller purchased this Mac Pro with the modifications already in place, therefore it's already second hand.
