Experts are meeting to debate whether some materials like plastic bottles could be dangerous, thanks to certain chemicals used in their manufacture. Bottled water is sold everywhere and is a staple stock item. But should we be concerned and is bottled water safe to drink? The environmental impact of bottled water is high with over 60 million water bottles being thrown away each day in the United States alone. Only a small percentage of these (around one in six) get recycled.
Led by Dr Almudena Veiga-Lopez of Michigan State University, this particular experiment tested the mother's blood for the substance during the first trimester, at the time of delivery and also from the umbilical cord after delivery. The tests were carried out to show levels for BPA and conjugated BPA, the form of the substance once it's been processed by the body.
When you eat foods from these containers, you’re at risk of being poisoned by this dangerous chemical. Some say that it is such a small amount that the effects are negligible. But many researchers are now pointing out that the chemicals accumulate and are the reason for such a high concentration of BPA found in umbilical cords and soft tissues in the body. BPA also affects marine life in freshwater in a similar fashion as humans. It gets in the air from evaporation out of contaminated water so it’s possible to get more doses via breathing infected air. Finally, it is used in paper receipts so whenever we touch them we get a small dose of BPA. All these small sources add up over time to a large dose that accumulates in the body and can lead to the following health hazards.
In New York City alone, the transportation of bottled water from western Europe released an estimated 3,800 tons of global warming pollution into the atmosphere. In California, 18 million gallons of bottled water were shipped in from Fiji in 2006, producing about 2,500 tons of global warming pollution.

Reverse osmosis does take out the chemicals but it also takes out things that the body needs to function properly.there is an awesome company that sells water filter systems called Multi-Pure it even filters out Arsenic it doesn’t however filter out floride unfortunately, they are working on that at this time, there is NOT a filter that can do that and meet the guidelines as given by the NSF.if you consider the costs a filter system by Multi-pure costs about 9 cents a gallon and is well worth the costs in my book.The Berkey water systems are not NSF certified so I would not trust it sorry.
